Dysart State High School
BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance, Queensland Government. Visual Identity The Brief was to set out some simple, guidelines in the form of a Visual Identity and Style Guide, removing any ambiguity or inconsistency in the school message. All key parties formed an integral part the development and direction of the Identity and Style. The Visual Identity allowed us to simplify and streamline how the school communicates and integrated into all methods of communication. Consistent across all forms of modern communications to help foster trust and build confidence in the positive story of the school. The Concept was an original, one off icon was designed with strong consideration of the unique positioning of Dysart State High School in rural Queensland. Three main themes influence the design and encompass the distinctive nature of the school, teachers, staff, students, community and stakeholders. The first concept was developed recognising the schools stature as a centre for learning and as a strong, established, focal point of the local community. These elements were represented, in the abstract, natural form of a tree, characterising the school as a symbol of knowledge and wisdom and as a positive, strong, pillar of the Dysart community. It also suggests its rural Queensland setting in a modern abstract form. The second step in the process was to look at Dysart State High School’s unique attributes and features. While researching the Dysart community and surroundings, it was recognised the unconventional town layout as having similar natural, organic tree like features in the street plan. This distinctive layout, from an early stage, influenced the development and unique look of the logo and brand. The central element of the logo was designed as a complimentary abstract reflection of the natural shapes formed around a lower case ‘d’ to represent Dysart and act as a focal point of the logo. The logo was designed with a bespoke; three-dimensional look and uses modern printing techniques such as transparency in reproduction that offers a contemporary look and feel. The colour concept for the logo and branding led to a pallet that represents the students in the youthful, energetic, vitality of the corporate blue/green complimented and contrasted by the more conservative, official, corporate dark green.
